Homeschool Day: Easter at Tilikum
April 2017
An Easter Celebration and day of family fun, with the possibility of a fantastic meal provided by Camp Tilikum. The day could include things such as boating, archery, fishing, a dissection, educational classes, facility tours, the chemistry of color (learning about egg dyes), Easter egg hunts, and a celebration of Christ's resurrection.
Homeschool Family Summer Camps
Starting in the summer of 2017
Glen's Gizmos is partnering with Camp Tilikum to provide an incredible summer camp experience for homeschooling families. Stay on site in the retreat center, or in tent cabins at the northridge adventure camp. During the day the youngest kids will be either with parents, or in classes while their older siblings attend either Tilikum Day Camp or Quest Adventure Camp. The oldest students will be participating in classes and an adventure program of their own as well. In the morning parents get a break, then after lunch participate in science teaching and relationship building workshops. Later in the afternoon families regroup, eat supper together, enjoy one more class, group games and memory making moments until bedtime.
Parent Workshops
Summer 2017
We are considering offering parent workshops at different times throughout the year. If we go this route the first workshops would probably be offered this summer.
Homeschool Courses
Starting in Fall 2017
Joel and Roxanna hope to offer courses to homeschoolers through their business Glen's Hands-On Gizmos. These courses would focus on science, technology, engineering, art and math. For example there may be 10 classes in a course on human anatomy offered weekly or every other week to older students, or a class on botany offered to elementary ages. They could be taught at any grade level and would utilize resources of both Camp Tilikum (our new home near Newberg, Oregon) and Glen's Gizmos. AND they would be taught in a historic schoolhouse from 1904!
Harvest Festival at Tilikum
Fall 2017
Let's get together and celebrate in the fall. A day full of family fun, memory making and celebration for God's provision. What better place to celebrate than Tilikum, a family farm turned kids camp. Activities will include boating, fishing, family games and challenges, and other activities similar to pumpkin patch activities, but kept Christ honoring. We probably won't carve pumpkins, but making gourd instruments or bird houses would be lots of fun. Come and join in the celebration!
Homeschool Holiday
Late Fall/Winter 2017
At the end of November or beginning of December join us at Camp Tilikum for a warm holiday celebration. Step back in time to an era when celebrating Christmas meant a trip to the family farm, playing in the barn, making hay forts, enjoying warm drinks, relaxing around the fire, making ornaments, and listening to music and eating holiday treats. Join family and friends as we celebrate Christ's birth together.
Homeschool Camping Trips
Summer or Fall 2017
Looking for an affordable way to bring memorable interactive science lessons to your family? This could be it. Rent a camp space or bring your RV and together we'll set up camp at different places around the Pacific Northwest, or maybe even take a backpacking trip. Each program will be tailored to the specific region focusing on subjects such as ecology, geology and botany.
Homeschool Science Fair
Start in fall 2017
First fair in the spring of 2018
Create a project and enter your project in a Pacific Northwest science fair for homeschoolers. While we wouldn't be able to qualify winning projects directly for the large INTEL fairs and scholarship money, we could work that direction in the future. Science fairs provide excellent feedback regarding science inquiry and the scientific method and everyone learns more about their subject of study. We will provide you with curriculum, guidelines, worksheets, scoring guides, find the judges and set up the fair itself for everyone to enjoy next spring. It may even be possible to give awards and have projects on display at the Oregon Christian Home Education Conference in the summer of 2018.
