Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
Parking: We will be parking in the parking lot at the Netarts Bay Boat Launch. A parking fee is charged to park. However, Glen's Gizmos has purchased transferable parking passes. So all you need to do is show up and borrow our parking pass to make parking free for you and easy!
Shellfish Licenses: Optional for the trip. Clamming and Crabbing. To clam and crab, and especially to keep any seafood passengers will need an Oregon Shellfish License. Annual licenses are available to residents, three day licenses are available to those who live outside of Oregon State. Boat: Fun, Fast, and stable we are using an 18ft Avon Searider. It is a rigid inflatable boat with a 70 horse motor and 9.9 horse backup kicker motor. A favorite for law enforcement, the military, the coast guard and SCUBA divers. 10 participant max per boat trip if including children. 8 maximum if all are adults.

Purpose: Field Study in Marine Biology and Bay Ecology
Animals to Be Seen (not guaranteed): Harbor Seals, Rock Crabs, Dungeness Crabs, Shore Crabs, Hermit Crabs, Kelp Crabs, Eccentric Sand Dollars, Clams, Cockles, Pacific Oysters, Flounders, Other Fish, Moon Snails, Bald Eagles, Blue Herons, Many Other Birds.
Target Ages: Suggested 8 Years to Adults.
Optional Adventure: Snorkeling the Eelgrass Beds - Bring a wetsuit, fins, snorkel and mask. We can help you find great snorkeling. Need this gear? We can help you rent it just ask. Unless it is a warm, sunny day we will not let you enter the water from the boat without a wetsuit, we need to know you can warm up after leaving the water which ranges from 55-65 degrees.
Total Time: 5-7 hours (some of this time we will be on shore excursions)
Charter a Private Boat Adventure: Sometimes homeschool groups, a couple families together or one particularly large family might choose this option. We will take the boat out for private day trip at $630. We can take up to 8 Adults or up to 10 if some passengers are children. Email [email protected] to arrange for private trips.
Lifejackets must be worn at all times by both adults and children when on the boat or in the water.
Suggested Packing List: Check the weather for the town of Netarts, Oregon before packing. If it looks like rain is possible bring warm clothes and a raingear. The boat is open and exposed to the weather.
Participant Agreement/Liability Release: When registering parents/guardians agree with our participant agreement which includes a liability release, emergency authorization, photo/video release and a piece on Christian community. You can find it here.
Cancellation: Need to cancel? Please contact us. This is a highly specialized trip utilizing expensive equipment with very limited capacity. Generally we do not issue refunds, sometimes we can issue credit for another trip.
*Often the weather is very nice. This activity however is weather dependent and you may be in the sun or rain because it is Oregon. Plan appropriate clothing. If it is deemed too stormy by Glen's Gizmos staff the trip will be cancelled, usually the day before and rescheduled or fully refunded.

- You will be in the boat and at the very least need a waterproof poncho and layers to stay dry if it rains. You aren't likely to get very wet simply from being in the boat unless it rains.
- Layers for clothing to add or remove.
- Shorts or a swimsuit if you plan on getting wet.

- Sunscreen (Seriously stay hydrated and plan for sun, the air temperature is usually pleasant, but we are exposed on the boat.)
- Binoculars with Straps

- Water Shoes / Sandals with Straps and shorts or adults can bring socks and wear a pair of our hip waders. There will be times when we must wade in the water to get to shore or a sand bar.
- A towel and extra set of clothes for the car.
