Today for beekeeping at the Firmly Planted Homeschool Resource Center students looked into a hive showing signs of disease.
Under the guidance of Eli Thompson, our bee expert a learning opportunity emerged. In this case they pulled dead pupae out of the comb with tweezers to diagnose the disease. This particular hive was caught in the wild and students discovered it has sacbrood, a virus which kills some pupae just prior to being capped and turning into adult bees.
